I am a Canadian Certified Counselor with the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association and Registered Counseling Therapist- Candidate with the Nova Scotia College of Counseling Therapists. I have a great passion for working with children, adolescents and young adults who are struggling in today’s world.
I have worked in the education system for the past 16 years; as an elementary classroom teacher for 9 years and an elementary/middle school counselor for 7 years. My therapeutic practice focuses on multiple theoretical orientations and techniques. I continue to pursue educational opportunities to support increased efficacy of treatment and improve personal growth for my clients.
Having first hand experience of walking into a room with a stranger, I understand the courage and vulnerability it takes to do so. It is my hope that my intuitive and compassionate qualities and creation of a nurturing therapeutic environment provide the comfort necessary to ease any potential discomfort children, adolescents and young adults may face when seeking therapeutic services. Being seen and heard for who we are and how we feel, without judgment is my priority.
My work with clients varies based on age, presenting challenges and level of cognition. The overall goal is to help clients recognize and verbalize feelings, identify typical behavior patterns, defenses and inner conflicts in order to reduce symptoms, provide insight and improve functioning and quality of life
When I am not at work I can typically be found puttering around our gardens, walking our handsome golden retriever, chasing chickens, exploring the seashore and enjoying the challenges and joys of raising two children alongside my husband.
